10. Visit the temples

With more than 30 temples, Koh Samui has plenty to see, and for kids a supposedly dull temple visit quickly turns into a small adventure. The best known are the Big Buddha at the island's northern tip and Wat Plai Laem, with its 18-armed goddess statue and fish ponds crossed by three bridges — popular with children, who enjoy feeding and watching the fish. One tip for hot days: the steps up to the Big Buddha can get uncomfortably hot underfoot, so bring sandals. Both temples feature on most island tours, see point 5 below.

9. Viewpoints

Koh Samui has several viewpoints overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, some reaching around 635 metres above sea level — for example near Wat Teepangkorn in the middle of the island. For families it's usually not worth driving there independently; a guided tour is easier. The jeep/jungle safari and the ATV tour below already stop at the best viewpoints, so you don't have to worry about roads or parking.

8. Footgolf

One of the most varied family activities is footgolf in Choeng Mon — reportedly the first footgolf course in Asia, set on an 18-hole coconut plantation. Smaller balls are available for younger children, and the operator lists no fixed minimum age. A round takes around 1 to 1.5 hours.

7. ATV jungle tour

Exploring the mountains on a powerful ATV is a real highlight for older kids and teenagers. 6. Visit the waterfalls

The coconut island has several waterfalls, most with a high water level year-round. Na Muang 1 even has a large natural pool for swimming and is reached via a short, easy path — well suited to families. The path to Waterfall 2 is steeper and better suited to older kids. 5. Jungle and jeep safari

The full-day island safari in an open 4x4 is one of the most popular family excursions because it combines several of these top 10 spots in a single tour: the Hin Ta and Hin Yai rock formations, the Guan Yu shrine, the mummified monk at Wat Khunaram, Na Muang waterfall, the Magic Buddha Garden, Wat Teepangkorn at 635 metres, Wat Plai Laem and the Big Buddha. 4. Get close to elephants

Instead of riding or shows, the reputable operators on Koh Samui now focus on ethical feeding and observation programmes: you help prepare a meal together, hand-feed the elephants and watch them bathe in the mud. The activity is open to all ages and is generally described as suitable for young and old alike. As a rule of thumb when choosing any elephant experience, look for operators without riding or shows — that's considered more animal-friendly.

3. Paradise Park Farm

Paradise Park Farm, on the mountain above Na Muang, still appears to be open as of the latest available reviews (into 2026): sprawling grounds with birds, deer and other animals along narrow walking trails, plus an infinity pool overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. It's currently not bookable as a package tour through our own shop — the easiest way to get there is by taxi or as a stop on your own scooter route. Sources disagree on the entrance fee, so it's best to check on arrival.

2. Zipline and adventure park

The old "Adventure Park" with water slides no longer appears to operate under that name on Koh Samui — in its place, we recommend the currently active zipline park in the hills, with nine ziplines through the jungle and views over the rainforest and coastline. Children aged 10 and up can ride alone, from age 5 with staff supervision; the weight limit is 120kg. Not recommended for pregnant women.
