Koh Samui's calm, warm water supports a genuinely wide range of water sports — some you can just walk up to on the beach, others you book ahead. Here's what's actually on offer in 2026, roughly what it costs, where the wind and waves work in your favour, and a few honest safety notes worth reading before you go.

Jet ski: rental or guided safari

Independent beach rental at Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut is the cheapest way onto a jet ski, but it's also where the well-documented damage-claim problem shows up most. Wakeboarding, water skiing and jetboard flying

Two boat-based activities are currently bookable directly through the shop, both around 30 minutes: classic boat-towed wakeboarding or water skiing, and jetboard flying (water-propelled boots that lift you above the surface, similar in spirit to a flyboard).

A few flashier activities from older Koh Samui guides — standalone flyboard, jetpack, the "tornado" extreme speedboat ride, and standalone banana boat or towable rentals — no longer appear as bookable products on either shop's site. They're generally still arranged informally with vendors set up directly on beaches like Chaweng and Lamai, at prices that are worth agreeing in writing before you get on the water.

Parasailing, banana boats and towables

These beach-vendor activities run roughly 800-1,500 THB for parasailing and 300-600 THB per person for a banana boat or towable ride, generally best in the calmer months from December to April. Choose an operator with visible safety equipment and a proper harness or life jacket, and ask about maximum wind conditions — reputable parasailing operators cancel proactively once wind gets too strong.

Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP)

SUP works well on Koh Samui's generally wave-free water, with rental and lessons at Maenam, Bophut and Choeng Mon. Mornings, roughly 6-10am, tend to be calmest. Expect around 300-600 THB per hour.

Kayaking

Casual kayak rental is available at several beaches along the Chaweng-Lamai coast, Maenam and Bophut — ask directly at beach kiosks, as prices vary by operator and aren't centrally listed. A more structured option is a guided transparent (clear-bottom) kayak tour, typically 800-1,500 THB. Koh Samui has two established schools. Kiteboarding Asia (KBA) follows the wind around the island: roughly December to April at Hua Thanon on the south-east coast, and May to November at Nathon on the west coast, with multi-day beginner packages (including IKO certification) from about 25,000 THB. Koh Samui's beaches have very few lifeguards and only a limited flag warning system, so a lot of the responsibility for staying safe falls on you. A few practical points:
