Koh Samui in June: Weather, the Half Marathon and Travel Tips

Koh Samui in June stays hot but turns noticeably rainier than the months before — the island is right in the middle of its first low season. Short answer: June suits anyone after lower prices who doesn't mind a few heavy afternoon showers. For reliably dry days back to back, January to March remains the better choice.

Weather in June
June stays hot, with daytime highs around 33°C, but the roughly 10 rain days bring noticeably more variety than April. Expect heavy, mostly afternoon-or-evening showers and thunderstorms, often after a sunny morning. Compared with the real rainy season from October to December, though, this is still moderate — most days still leave plenty of dry time for excursions.
Wind and sea are generally still manageable on both coasts in June. The southwest monsoon is already active on the Andaman coast by this point, but barely reaches the Gulf of Thailand and Koh Samui; the northeast monsoon that brings Koh Samui's own rainy season doesn't arrive until autumn. Boat trips generally run as normal, with occasional short-notice cancellations for individual thunderstorm cells.
What to do in June — and what not to
A sunset sailing trip works well in June, since the heaviest showers have usually cleared by late afternoon, right as the sky opens up again toward evening:

Ang Thong National Park is also open as normal in June and manageable whenever the sea is calm:

Beaches on both coasts remain usable throughout June, without the pronounced rough side of the island that shows up later in the year. If you do get caught in a shower, a shopping mall, an air-conditioned temple tour, or an indoor activity will bridge the gap well.
Festivals and events in June
The sporting highlight is the Bangkok Airways Samui Half Marathon: the 2026 edition took place on Sunday 21 June, starting and finishing at Chaweng Lake Public Park, with half marathon, 10km and 5km routes. 2027 dates weren't confirmed at the time of checking, but expect a similar June window — check the organiser's channels shortly before your trip if you want to run or watch. Fruit in season
Durian usually hits peak flavour in June, while mangosteen and rambutan are still mid-season. Lychee starts winding down toward the end of the month. If you want to catch the widest variety of fruit at once, June — together with April and May — is the best stretch of the year. Full details in our Top 10 Fruits in Thailand.
What to pack for June
Light clothing and strong sun protection are still essential, but June is a good month to add a compact rain jacket or a small umbrella for the afternoon showers — both are cheap to pick up at any convenience store on the island if you forget. For boat trips, a waterproof pouch for your phone and wallet is worth having in case spray comes over the deck. If you're prone to seasickness, pack something for it just in case.
